Dental Implant Process

The procedure for dental implants requires multiple visits over several months. After the comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Freano will create a personalized treatment plan. The entire implant process usually takes six to eight months, and most patients don’t experience a disruption to their daily lives.

Placing the Dental Implant

If Dr. Freano is replacing a damaged tooth, he will need extract it first. If not, we will schedule oral surgery to place the implant post. The implant post is actually a titanium anchor and small titanium post that an oral surgeon surgically places into your jawbone. The implant post serves as a substitute tooth root. In some instances, Dr. Freano will surgically install the dental implant post in his dental office. Otherwise, we will refer patients with more serious issues to our trusted oral surgeon or periodontist to conduct the surgery.

Before placing the implant, we have to make sure you have adequate bone structure. If you have insufficient bone structure, there is an additional step before we can place the implant. Dr. Freano may conduct a bone graft to ensure successful results. A bone graft will repair bone loss in your jaw. Once your jaw heals from this procedure, you’ll then be able to proceed with the rest of the dental implant process.

Then, we will give your mouth time to heal and integrate with the dental implants. The healing process can take about three to six months. We will be with you every step of the way.

Restoring the Dental Implant

While your mouth is healing after oral surgery, a dental laboratory is fabricating your dental crown, denture, or bridge according to Dr. Freano’s specifications. Once the dental implant fully fuses with your jaw bone, Dr. Freano will attach the abutment to the implant post. Then he will secure the denture, dental bridge, or crown to the abutment. Finally, your new dental implant restoration is ready for use!
