Does the thought of visiting the dentist make your heart race? Do you avoid scheduling appointments because of fear or a bad experience years ago? Dental anxiety is real, and it keeps many people from getting the care they need.
We want you to know that we see you, we hear you, and we can help.
At Complete Dentistry for All Ages, Dr. Morgan Chambers and her team specialize in helping anxious patients feel safe and comfortable. With sedation dentistry, you can finally get the dental care you need without the stress and fear. You may even be able to complete several procedures in one visit, so you spend less time in the chair overall.

Who Can Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation is not just for people who are scared. It can help with a range of concerns. You may be a good candidate if you:
- Feel anxious or fearful about dental visits
- Have a strong gag reflex that makes treatment difficult
- Have trouble sitting still for long periods
- Need extensive dental work that would require multiple long appointments
- Have sensitive teeth that make cleanings or procedures uncomfortable
- Have special needs that make traditional dental visits challenging
Many of our patients have told us they wish they had tried sedation years ago. It can truly change your relationship with dental care.
Is Sedation Safe?
This is the most common question we hear, and it is an important one. The answer is yes, but only when sedation is administered by a properly trained professional.
Dr. Chambers has completed advanced education courses from DOCS Education, a leading provider of sedation training for dentists. This means she understands exactly how to administer sedation safely and effectively.
Before any sedation appointment, Dr. Chambers will:
- Review your complete medical history, including allergies, medications, and any health conditions
- Consider your age, weight, and size to determine the right dosage
- Monitor you continuously throughout your procedure
- Adjust the level of sedation as needed to keep you comfortable and safe
Some patients, such as those with certain breathing issues, young children, or women who are pregnant, may not be candidates for certain types of sedation. Dr. Chambers will be completely honest with you about what is safe for your situation.
Types of Dental Sedation We Offer
Dr. Chambers offers different levels of sedation to match your needs. These are all “conscious sedation” options, meaning you remain in control of your natural bodily functions but are deeply relaxed and unaware of the treatment.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
This is a great option for mild to moderate anxiety. You breathe the sedative through a small mask placed over your nose. It is mixed with oxygen for safety.
You will feel happy, light, and completely relaxed. Some patients say they feel a little giggly. It takes effect within minutes and wears off just as quickly once the mask is removed. You can usually drive yourself home afterward, though we always recommend having a ride if possible.
Oral Sedation
This option is best for moderate anxiety or for longer procedures. Dr. Chambers will prescribe a pill for you to take at home about an hour before your appointment. By the time you arrive, you will already feel calm and drowsy.
You will be awake and able to respond to Dr. Chambers, but you will be in a deeply relaxed state. Many patients remember little to nothing about the procedure afterward.
You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. The effects can last for several hours.
IV Sedation
Dr. Chambers is one of only a few dentists in the area with the advanced training and certification to offer IV sedation. This is the deepest level of sedation we provide.
The sedative is delivered directly into your bloodstream through a tiny IV line. This allows Dr. Chambers to control the level of sedation continuously throughout your procedure.
You will be in a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state. You will still be breathing on your own and can respond to Dr. Chambers if needed, but you will be completely unaware of the treatment.
The effects can take up to 24 hours to fully wear off. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours afterward.
More Ways to Help You Feel at Ease
We know that for some patients, the thought of a dental visit is overwhelming. Beyond sedation, here are some simple things you can do to feel more in control.
- Bring headphones. Listen to music, a podcast, or an audiobook during your appointment. It is a simple way to distract your mind.
- Practice breathing. Taking slow, deep breaths can calm your nervous system. Try it before your appointment and during treatment.
- Talk to us, and let Dr. Chambers know about your fears. The more we understand, the better we can help. If it would help you feel more comfortable, we can even schedule an office tour before your first treatment. You can meet the team and see the space with no pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be completely unconscious during sedation?
No. With all the sedation options we offer, you remain conscious and able to breathe on your own. The level of awareness varies. With nitrous oxide, you are awake and can talk. With oral or IV sedation, you are deeply relaxed and may not remember the procedure, but you are not unconscious.
Can I eat or drink before my appointment?
It depends on the type of sedation. For nitrous oxide, a light meal a few hours before is usually fine. For oral or IV sedation, you will likely need to avoid food and drink for 6 to 8 hours before your appointment. Dr. Chambers will give you clear instructions beforehand.
How will I feel afterward?
With nitrous oxide, you will feel back to normal within minutes. With oral or IV sedation, you will feel sleepy and possibly groggy for several hours. You may feel a little dizzy or lightheaded. This is normal. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day.
Is sedation safe if I have sleep apnea?
It can be, but Dr. Chambers needs to know about your sleep apnea before your appointment. She will choose the safest option for you and monitor your breathing closely throughout the procedure. Your safety is always the top priority.
Can I get sedation if I am pregnant?
Sedation is generally considered safest during the second trimester. It’s usually avoided in the first trimester when the baby’s organs are forming, and in the third trimester because of the risk of early labor. If you are pregnant, please let us know. We will discuss your options and help you make the safest choice for you and your baby.
How much does sedation cost?
The cost varies depending on the type of sedation and the length of your procedure. Some dental insurance plans cover a portion of sedation costs, especially if it’s needed for a complex procedure. We will give you a clear estimate before your appointment and can discuss payment options.
